I can’t believe I’ve never made these! I think I remember making protein balls awhile back, but they were nothing like these little delicious balls of bliss. Literally. It helps having a vitamix too, that thing blasts anything you throw in there!
I don’t know if karma is after me, but today I decided to go for a run. I’ve been doing treadmill sprints lately but since the weather is a littler cooler here today in Kelowna I decided to take my run outside. Everything was going great! I even stopped at some bleachers and did a little circuit of jumping Bulgarian split squats, triceps dips, and jumping squats up the bleachers. I had a good sweat on and was ready to tackle my run over the bridge that links over to West Kelowna. It’s about 1 kilometre to get to the other side so it’s a perfect jaunt. I even did some sprints uphill on the other side before deciding to head back.
And then, the worse thing happened. And it happened so darn fast I just watched it happened, threw my arms up, and stared in disbelief. Followed by a few tears of course… A skateboarder that I saw earlier was flying downhill on the middle of the bridge, and I was running slightly in the middle because there was a jogger coming my way and I was trying to avoid a crash. When out of nowhere, the skateboarder flew by, his backpack hitting me, my iPhone and it’s current playing of the new Macklemore song Downtown (really good by the way!) went overboard, first flying across the pavement then falling off the bridge. Way down to where the Ogopogo lives (it’s a Kelowna thing). I was honestly so shocked, and SO upset, especially because there was nothing I could do. It was a long walk home, and I didn’t feel like running, sans phone. Anyways, I went to Telus and bought a new phone and wasn’t happy about it. But at least I had bliss balls waiting for me at home!
- 2 cups dates (130 g)
- 1/3 cup chopped walnuts
- 1 T almond flour
- 1 cup shredded unsweetened coconut
- 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa
- 1 scoop vanilla protein powder
I blended everything up in the vitamix, and it was amazing how the nuts creating an oil to keep it a nice consistency! I thought about adding butter or coconut oil but I think that would make it too oily. I then rolled it in some more coconut. Excited to try more variations, and use more super foods like matcha and maca powder!
Well I’m off to work night shifts for the weekend and also looking after this guy for my friend whose out of town!
